How we can help

Asphalt Driveways and Repairs for Darwin Homes and Businesses

New Hot-Mix Driveways

We dig out your driveway, put down a crushed rock base and roll hot-mix asphalt into a firm, smooth surface. It's a great fit for suburban blocks, new homes and knock-down rebuilds, and we trim the edges so they sit tidily against your lawn, garden beds and front path.

Rural Driveways and Access Tracks

Got a long run from the road on acreage around Humpty Doo, Howard Springs, Girraween or elsewhere in the rural area? We build the pavement up a little above the surrounding ground, so delivery trucks, horse floats and your family car stay on solid footing even after a big wet-season soaking.

Pothole and Patch Repairs

We square-cut potholes, crumbling edges and dips, top up and recompact the base, then fill with fresh hot-mix rolled level with the rest. If most of your driveway is still sound, fixing the worst spots now stops the next wet season from turning small holes into big ones.

Townhouse and Strata Driveways

Sharing a driveway with neighbours? We pave common driveways for townhouses, duplexes and strata complexes, in stages when needed so everyone can still reach their garage. We work with your body corporate on timing and notices, and set levels carefully at each garage and path so water has nowhere to sit.

Business Yards and Hardstands

We lay asphalt hardstands for depots, trade yards, sheds and small car parks, with a deeper base where trucks turn and park. We can leave your surface ready for line marking and wheel stops, and plan a sensible route through the site for forklifts, utes and customers.

Solid Edges and Neat Street Joins

Asphalt usually starts to fail at the edges, so we finish yours with a concrete kerb, flush edging or a compacted shoulder. Where your driveway meets the road, we tie it cleanly into the existing crossover or kerb, leaving no lip to bump over or gap for water to get in.

Starting Your Asphalt Driveway in Darwin: Three Simple Ways

Sick of a dusty gravel drive or worn-out bitumen? Asphalt goes down quickly and stands up well to everyday driving. Here are three easy ways you can start chatting with us about your driveway.

  • Give us rough measurements: Step out your driveway's length and width, then call us with those numbers and what's there now, and we'll give you a ballpark budget.
  • Show us where water sits: Take a few photos after a big storm, so we can see where puddles form and plan falls that move water away from your house.
  • Let us know your timing: Tell us when you need to be parking on it again, and we'll schedule the laying and rolling to suit.

When you get in touch, you'll talk to the crew who'll lay your asphalt, not a call centre. We know how water lingers on flat Darwin blocks during a monsoon storm, and we build your base with that in mind. Call 08 7943 6030 or use the form to book your free quote.

Why work with us

Why Darwin Locals Choose Us for Asphalt

Back on It the Next Day

Need your driveway back quickly, say between tenants or for a busy business yard? Asphalt is the practical choice. You can usually drive on it the day after we lay it, while a concrete slab generally needs about a week before cars go on.

A Base Built for Your Ground

A firm lateritic gravel block needs a different base from soft, soggy ground near Darwin's creeks and mangroves. We dig to suit what we find, compact crushed rock in layers and check it's solid before any asphalt goes down.

Spot-On Timing on the Day

Hot-mix only compacts properly while it's within a narrow temperature range, and a passing shower or a wet base can shut that window fast. We book the trucks, paver and roller to arrive in order, so we roll every section while it's still workable.

Rainwater Kept Away from the Edges

Even on a gentle slope, a monsoon downpour turns into a sheet of water that chews away at asphalt edges. We build in a slight crossfall and add spoon drains or grated cut-offs, letting water off your driveway bit by bit instead of rushing to the street.

Your Other Surfaces Protected

Tack coat and hot-mix stick to anything they land on. We cover your kerbs, paths, garage door tracks and garden edges before we start, then sweep up when we finish, so the only thing you'll notice is your new driveway.

Every Cost Shown Separately

Your quote lists excavation, base, asphalt, edging and sealing as individual items. You can see what each part costs, cut back the scope if you need to, and compare our price fairly with other quotes.

Common questions

Asphalt Driveway FAQs

What Darwin homeowners usually want to know about asphalt: when you can park on it, how it compares with concrete, wet-season laying and resurfacing an old driveway.

Usually the next day. Asphalt hardens as it cools, rather than curing chemically the way concrete does, so your car can normally go on after about 24 hours. It keeps hardening for a few weeks, though, and can scuff during that time. Try not to turn your steering wheel while the car is standing still, don't leave a loaded trailer or caravan in one place, and put a board under motorbike stands, jacks or ladders. On steamy Darwin afternoons the surface is softer than on a cool morning, so be a bit gentle for the first month, especially near your garage where cars turn.

It depends on your budget, your timing and what you'll be parking on it. Asphalt usually costs less per square metre, goes down faster and can take cars within a day. It also flexes slightly, so it handles a bit of movement as soft or clayey ground gets wet and dries out through the seasons. Concrete costs more but generally lasts much longer, resists tyre marks and heavy vehicles parked in the same spot, and can be coloured, stamped or exposed. Wherever water runs across your driveway, either surface needs enough texture to stay grippy in a downpour. For landlords and businesses that can't close for a week, asphalt is often the better fit.

We can, but it's trickier, and rain affects asphalt more than most people think. The mix has to be spread and rolled while it's hot, and rain cools it quickly, which makes proper compaction hard and leaves you with a weaker surface that won't last as long. A waterlogged base causes just as many problems. Where we can, we schedule asphalt jobs in the dry season, roughly May to October, and during the wet we choose days with a clear forecast. If your job can't wait, we'll explain the risks honestly and plan the day around the weather radar.

Often, yes, and it's usually much cheaper. If the base underneath is still firm and the problems are only on the surface, like wear, fine cracks or faded, brittle asphalt, a new layer over the top can give you years more use. If the base has failed, though, an overlay just hides the problem for a while and the cracks soon come back. Warning signs include soft spots that move when you walk on them, potholes that keep returning and puddles sitting in dips after rain. We check your base first and we'll tell you straight if an overlay isn't worth the money.

A well-built asphalt driveway with good drainage can serve you for many years, and regular sealing helps it last even longer. Up here, the main enemies are the fierce UV, which slowly dries out and hardens the bitumen, and water getting into small cracks. Over a long wet season that water can soften the base and open the cracks wider, so little problems grow fast if you leave them. Resealing every few years, filling cracks early and keeping leaves and silt off the surface all make a difference. We're happy to give you a simple maintenance plan when we hand your driveway over.
